From the time I was a teenager, I have been fascinated by gargoyles. Many people view them as evil, as ugly, and something to be avoided. However, they are actually protectors! Medieval architecture included gargoyles, or "grotesques" as a fanciful way to keep evil spirits away. Architecture through history has used gargoyles as waterspouts to direct the flow of water from roofs and gutters. Considering the nature of steampunk, I thought the gargoyle would be a perfect subject.
Here is the result. This drawing is very detailed and intricate, and took me close to 20 hours to complete.
