A while back I came upon a photograph of a park bench which had these ornate wrought iron sides in the shape of a winged sphynx. I was absolutely amazed at the beauty of the bench, and the intricacy of the iron. This Sphynx came about because of that design. In this drawing, I used more organized and structured shapes than I usually do, giving the drawing a more ornate and floral appearance.
The winged sphynx was a common subject in ancient Greek and Persian architecture, and later was revived in Europe during the Renaissance.
